Huey Died early today at home, 674 Middle Drive, Woodruff Place. Born May 15, 1836. President of Capitol Lumber Company for many years, retired about 6 years ago, in favor of his son, Oscar L. Huey. He came to Indianapolis in 1853 from Zanesville, Ohio, and with the exception of a few years in South Bend, had lived in Indianapolis ever since. Started a chair factory in Maryland Street near the canal shortly after his arrival, later was connected with the firm of Spiegel & Thoms, furniture manufacturers. During the period of the Civil War he was engaged in a photographic business, and later was one of the firm of Huey, Adams & Johnson. After the withdrawal of his partners the company was called the M. S. Huey Company, which later became the Bee Hive planing mill. This was before his connection with the Capitol Lumber Company. In 1859 married Miss Julia A. Smith, of Indianapolis, who survives. Also survived by son Oscar L. Huey, daughter, Mrs. William F. Johnson, 2 brothers: James F. Huey and Perry K. Huey.
