We had the privilege, a few days since of examining two of the finest largest and most life-like pictures we have ever seen, taken here or elsewhere, by any photographer. They were of the late Wm. C. Vane and Judge Dewey, and were raised from what is known as a card to Cabinet size. Mr. E. C. Hammill, this city, is the artist and PO Gallery is the place to visit if you wish to look upon the photos in question. The appearance of the face of our late friend Vance, as in by-gone days, is truly refreshing - nothing added, nothing taken there from. As natural as life, in perfect health." Crawfordsville Weekly Journal (Crawfordsville, Indiana), February 22, 1872, p. 3 "India Ink Photographs. In the reception room of the Postoffice Photograph Gallery are two large India Ink Photographs executed by Mr. E. C. Hamill. They are both copies from old and small photographs, one of Judge Dewey, prepared for Col. S. C. Willson, and the other of the late Wm. C. Vance, of this city. The latter is an excellent likeness and a finely finished picture. We never saw Judge Dewey, but understand Col. Willson pronounces the likeness perfect, white the execution is equally as good as that of the other picture. We understand Mr. Hamill intends to devote a considerable portion of his time to this style of copying and enlarging, and, judging from these specimens, he is an artist who will succeed in giving more than ordinary satisfaction." Crawfordsville Weekly Journal (Crawfordsville, Indiana), May 16, 1872, p. 3 Notes that E. C. Hamill attended National Photographic Association 4th annual convention in St. Louis last week. Crawfordsville Weekly Journal (Crawfordsville, Indiana), May 2, 1872, p. 2 "Hamill, of the Postoffice Gallery, has been elected photographer for the class of '72, Wabash College." Crawfordsville Weekly Journal (Crawfordsville, Indiana), August 8, 1872, p. 3 "The interest manifested by Hamill, of the Postoffice Gallery, in offering a fine water color painting to the handsomest baby, is being appreciated by the mothers." Crawfordsville Weekly Journal (Crawfordsville, Indiana), August 22, 1872, p. 3 "Look for the mammoth sign 'Postoffice Photograph Gallery,' hanging from the roof of the Postoffice building." Crawfordsville Weekly Journal (Crawfordsville, Indiana), October 10, 1872, p. 3 "To the boys and girls between 6 & 15 years old. One more chance Monday, Oct. 7th. All of you can get one dozen gems at the Postoffice Gallery, for 50 cents. E. C. Hamill." Crawfordsville Weekly Journal (Crawfordsville, Indiana), December 12, 1872, p. 3 "Go to the Post Office Gallery and get your picture before Hamill leaves for Cincinnati." Zach, "Photographers of Montgomery County" Article from the Crawfordsville Star, January 7, 1873, p. 3 Crawfordsville Weekly Journal (Crawfordsville, Indiana), February 20, 1873, p. 3 "Hamill quits the Postoffice Gallery the first of March." Crawfordsville Weekly Journal (Crawfordsville, Indiana), March 6, 1873, p. 3 "We have been shown some of the finest enlarged pictures, copies and from life, of well known citizens, executed by E. C. Hamill, who has gained such an enviable reputation in the Postoffice Gallery. He has this week commenced the canvass of this city and county for pictures to be copied and enlarged. Persons wanting such work done will do well to keep their orders until he calls on them, rather than give them to strangers from a distance, who will not give better satisfaction, if as good, as he can." Crawfordsville Weekly Journal (Crawfordsville, Indiana), April 24, 1873, p. 3 "E. C. Hamill, the photographer, has taken his departure for Cincinnati which will be the base of his future operations."
