On January 1, 1864 Weingarth entered into the employ of Alfred Bowman, photographer. In 1867 he returned to New Orleans where he carried on business for a little over a year, and having a preference for the genial air of Shelbyville over that of the queen city of the South, he came back and again connected himself with Bowman's Gallery as assistant, which position he held until the year 1872, when he bought Mr. Bowman out, and carried on business in the same quarters. On the 4th of September, 1876, misfortune overtook him in the shape of fire, which entirely destroyed his gallery.
