Nov. 2, 1993 telephone conversation with ?, owner of the McDonald Studio: the SB public library had a ca. 1930 book featuring local businesses, it includes McDonald and has a history of Albert and the business. He says McDonald was related to Perry McDonald, who 1st made daguerreotype plates. McDonalds moved to Michigan and Albert opened the South Bend Studio in 1861. Albert had the 1st ground floor studio; invented speed lights. The ground floor studio at the SW corner of Michigan & Wayne was torn down about 1920. The studio has moved several times since then. Mr. Rode, who had worked for McDonald, owned the studio ca. 1910-1929. Mr. L___? owned it 1929-33; Thompsett owned it during the war years, and the man I talked to bought it in 1946. Some of McDonald's family was still around in the 1950s. A 1959 fire ruined the negatives.
