John R. Tatman a photographer of Shelbyville, dropped dead.

Marshall County Independent, Plymouth, 28 Jan 1898, p. 2, Shelbyville, Ind. John R. Talman [sic], a photographer, dropped dead.

Indianapolis Journal, January 24, 1898, p. 3 - Johnson R. Tatman dropped dead at his home in Shelbyville just before noon Jan. 23. Had been in fairly good health, but feeble, and attended to his morning work as usual. In stooping forward to place some fuel upon the fire, he probably ruptured a blood vessel in the brain, produdcing death instantly. Born in Fleming County, KY, but when child moved with parents to Franklin, Ohio where he grew to manhood. Married Miss Blake in Columbia, Fayette County Indiana and later settled in Laurel, where he combined trades of tailor, dentist and photographer. 28 years ago he moved to this city and has been since one of the leaders in his profession photography. Leaves wife and 3 children: Mrs. M. Hamilton Goodrich of Baltimore MD, photographer Charles Tatman of this city, and Dr. Beecher B. Tatman, dentist of Mount Vernon, Ill.
