Friedgen bought Snyder out in June, 1873, at which time Friedgen and Donner was formed. The business concern was situated in the Donner Block, opposite the McEwen Block (nw corner, Third and Franklin). The Donner Block was directly east of today’s Crump Theatre. In March, 1889, John Crump bought the Donner property which adjoined Keith’s Arcade, the building John Crump bought at auction in January, 1889, as Keith had been taken to the insane asylum and all of his property holdings had been put up for auction in order to pay a $28,000 debt to Francis T. Crump. On acquiring the Donner property, John Crump had the old Donner buildings razed. The Donner was Fred Donner, jeweler and father of William Donner." Columbus Republican, 11 Dec. 1873, p. 2 The Photograph Gallery. The oldest and largest gallery is that located in Donner's Block, and run by two as skillful artists as any city can boast of, viz.: Messrs. Friedgen & Donner. The operating room has one of the best sky lights in the State, the light being modeulated to any degree by the means of a series of screens arranged after a plan of Mr. Friedgen's own. And started business for himself, remaining there until 1864 when he removed to Columbus. Besides the jewelry business he's engaged in milling trade with A. C. Rominger (Rominger & Donner) being proprietors of Columbus City Mills (fine grade of flour). Mr. Donner has also carried on photography business for 22 yrs., with the exception of an interval of 5 yrs. And in connection with George Friedgen, is still carrying on photography in same building as his jewelry business. O. block to the rooms I formerly occupied over Rosts' jewelry store. Have put in a large new skylight of the latest approved pattern, remodeled the rooms, and have new instruments, new backgrounds and new accessories. I now have everything in good shape to make first-class work. My rents and other expenses are low and I propose to give my customers the benefit of these advantages, and will, for the present, make cabinets, best material and best finish, at $2 per dozen; not $2 in advertisement and $3 at the gallery, but $2 per dozen, straight. Special attention will be given to children. Also copying and enlarging in all its branches from card to life size. Remember the place, first gallery north of railroad, over Rosts' jewelry store.
