He was buried in Park Cemetery, Greenfield. Cuylers lived in this city for a number of years operating the well known Cuyler Studios. "Ben was one of those good natured, jolly souls who was always welcome in any circle… He was good company, a charming conversationalist, intellectual and a man blessed with a keen sense of humor." Mentions that he was excellent character actor, on stage a number of years and schooled in old classic drama. In Greenfield he coached and acted in amateur productions. 1880 Census Place: Romeo, Macomb, Michigan Source: FHL Film 1254592 National Archives Film T9-0592 Page 318B William B. Lender Evan Finch wrote of this postcard, "William B. Cuyler was born in Newmarket, Canada, on March 23, 1846. In 1863, he moved to Attica, Michigan, where he was employed as a sawyer and engineer until 1865, when he became interested in photography. In succeeding years, Cuyler worked as a photographer in Romeo, Michigan; the state of Colorado; Delphi, Indiana; and Greenfield, Indiana. First married to Harriet Woodrow on April 19, 1872, W. B. Cuyler married a second time, on March 16, 1905, to Lucy Madge Burge, in Greenfield, Indiana. Cuyler's first wife, Harriet, seems to have then moved to Mount Clemens, Michigan, to live with the family of her daughter, Laurette (Cuyler) Remer. By the time of the 1910 census, Cuyler and his second wife were living in Indianapolis, Indiana. In November 1913, they moved into a house at 1527 College Avenue in Indianapolis, Indiana. Cuyler's second wife, Lucy, was born on May 6, 1873. In September 1915, when this postcard was mailed, she would have been 42 years old. It's possible that she's one of the woman on the porch (or those might just be four female customers, waiting to get their pictures taken). W. B. Cuyler seems to have died, in Indianapolis, in March 1925." Nagley, Sr. "Two of the now-forgotten photographers of Greenfield were W. B. Cuyler and a man by the name of Joseph I. Butler, both of whom were in business in Greenfield when I was a young boy in the early 90s. I can remember how Mr. Cuyler looked but the countenance of Mr. Butler has faded from my 'memory-screen', it seems." [see also Butler and Pogue]. "Mr. Cuyler was a very 'dressy' man, I recall, with a radiant countenance, who looked the part of the traditional artist and who wore a smock of black cloth. He was very alert and 'stage-directed' all of his customers as he took their pircures, especially the children. He got their attention by snapping his fingers and by gestures… / As I recall, Mr. Cuyler later moved to Indianapolis and located his studio on College Avenue, just south of 27th Street, in a big rmae house, where he passed on."
