OriginalNotes: Resources & Industries of Indiana, Wayne, Henry, Delaware & Randolph Co's, 1884, p. 107, Wint. Needham, photographer, has had more than 17 yrs. experience, greater portion of time spent in New Castle. He is native of Indiana. At outbreak of rebellion Needham enlisted as musician in 57th regiment of Ind. volunteers, Oct. 18, 1861 and received an honorable discharge July 1, 1865 after serving 44 mos. and 10 days serving in battles of Stone River and Mission Ridge, siege of Atlanta and at New Hope, Lovejoy.

History of Henry Co., 1884, p. 514: W. Needham, photographer, 120 South Main street, New Castle, IN, was born in Henry Co. IN Dec. 6, 1840, a son of Robert and Malinda (Nixon) Needham. He remained on the farm of his father, and attended school till the breaking out of the Rebellion, when he enlisted in Company F., Fifty-seventh Indiana Infantry, and served till the close of the war; was mustered out July 1, 1865. he participated in the battles of Stone River, Perryville, Atlanta, Chickamauga, Mission Ridge and many others under General Sherman. After his return home he engaged in the drug trade until January, 1866, when he opened a photograph gallery on Broad street, removing to his present location in 1868. He was married Sept 10, 1866 to Mary C., daughter of John and Elizabeth V. Hosea. They have five children, three sons and two daughters. Mr. Needham is a member of the Knights of Pythias and Grand Army of the Republic. He is filling the chair of Past Chancellor in the former.

Milburn Forth wrote:
"Winford enlisted in the Union Army Oct 20, 1861 as a musician and served for the duration. Co. F, 57th Ind. Volunteers. He was 21 years old when he enlisted; height 5'10" with blue eyes and light complexion."
