CDV states that P. W. Wolever was established in 1866 [in Lafayette, he was working as early as 1862 in Pennsylvania]

The Pictorial History of Carroll County (ca. 1977/78 by C. E. Gerard & Michael G. Griffey) states that Peter W. Wolever in Lafayette taught his brother, Andrew W. Wolever, photography from 1869-74.

Obituary for Mrs. Marie S. Wolever. Married Peter W. Wolever in April 1866 in Pottsville, Pa. and immediately afterward she and husband came to Lafayette, where Mr. Wolever conducted a photograph gallery for many years. The original gallery was in the building on Columbia street, near Fourth, now occupied by the Balfe grocery. The house in which she made her home was originally purchased by her husband in 1870 and after being bought by her son was rebuilt. So she had lived in the same locality for 63 years. Thirteen children born to the union, five surviving: S. P. Wolever, W. S. Wolever, and L. A. Wolever all of Lafayette; Franklin H. Wolever of Chicago; and Elmer H. Wolever of Norristown, Penn. Burial in Spring Vale.

Wolever opened a downtown studio in 1867 in a career that spanned more than 20 years. He captured images of city streets and buildings from his studio window at No. 84 Columbia St. [includes his portrait]
