"How to Build Up a Business: The Artist Baldwin in His New Quarters." Lengthy article about Jesse Baldwin, who 9 years ago came to Noblesville and engaged in the general business of an artist. Three years ago he purchased of A. J. Allison, then in the business, his room and fixtures and located with his family. Business grew and facilities largely increased until it fairly ran him out of his rooms, having added all the furnishings of a picture store, such as frames, picture glass, tassels, chromos, albums, and other goods. Seeing an opportunity, he purchased a site in connection with Messrs. Luck? & Bonebrake, bankers, and last summer, in juxtaposition to the bank building, erected a two-story brick building consisting of two large business rooms and fronting on Catherine street, near the corner formed with Conner.

Noblesville Ledger, March 29, 1878, p. 4 - Jesse Baldwin, the artist, having returned from Alabama, is now placing in his well-known picture gallery new apparatus, and will be prepared to execute the very finest pictures ever taken here at prices so low that everybody will be astonished.

Noblesville Ledger, May 11, 1877, p. 4 - Baldwin photographed the new jail on Thursday. The old court house and the old jail should also have been taken, as distinguished relics of the past, and the pictures deposited in the corner stone of the new court house that is to be built as some period in the future.

Noblesville Ledger, July 18, 1879, p. 4 - Describes four large and beautiful crayon pictures in the fine art gallery of Jesse Baldwin, just completed by him. One is of Lewis Ester of Westfield, another of Henry Makepeace, one of the Dickover twins of Arcadia, and other of Miss Cora Bowman, deceased of Westfield. Besides these he has a large new stock of cromas of most delightful scenery.

1879-80 Williams & Co. Indiana State Directory, p. 369

Noblesville Ledger, August 15, 1879, p. 4 - Photographer Baldwin took a photographic negative of the immense crowd that witnessed the baptism on Sunday last, from which he has printed quite a number of fine pictures. [He gave copy and one of the court house to the newspaper.]

Noblesville Ledger, 25 Jan. 1930, p. 1 - 50 Years Ago [1880] - Jesse Baldwin, the photographer, will move to Lafayette.
