Russell & Johnson, Photographers, Give Lebanon the Shake." The firm known as Russell & Johnson, photographers, have skipped the country and left many creditors in the lurch. It has been ascertained that Mr. Russell was going under an assumed name, and that his right name was R. E. Smith. They came here several months ago and purchased the J. M. Nay photograph gallery, and at once began to make sweeping reductions in prices of good work. They secured a great deal of work on the cash down order, but the work was never finished. They induced a large number of people to leave their dollar for photographs with them, but who never received their pictures, and in this way they were from $200 to $300 better off. T. B. Dicks, who owns the rooms they occupied, is minus his rent to the amount of $15. [They gave rooms key to a boy on street the night of their departure, asking that he give it to Dicks the next morning. Mentions others they owed.] They had fitted up their rooms in very nice taste and had recently purchased a new camera from Robert Lieber, of Indianapolis, but on which Mr. Lieber held a lease. On their failure to meet their obligation Mr. Lieber took possession of the camera only a few days before their departure for the unpaid balance of $72. It has been learned that Russell & Johnson have located at Tipton, where they have opened up a gallery with a new outfit. Long column stating that Russell (Russell E. Smith) & Johnson, the photographers, were taken advantage of by Dave Allen (life insurance salesman), at that time under arrest. Allen bought a camera of Leiber Company, giving a mortgage on it and in turn sold it to them for $100, the same to be paid in payments. Allen claimed title was clear. Russell & Johnson claimed that they had paid all but $25 on the outfit, when Lieber Company foreclosed their mortgage and took the camera.
