"Oscar Smith, Photographer, Dies at Home. Funeral Rites for Prominent Resident to be Held Wednesday."
Obituary. Oscar W. Smith, Sr., 83, widely-known Columbus photographer died this afternoon at home 734 Seventh St. "Mr. Smith, among the state's early-day photographers, retired from his studio here May 1, 1950. The studio, located at 409 Fifth street, was purchased by Francis Galbraith who has continued its operation as the Smith studio."  He had a studio in the present Rio theater building before moving to the Rost building.

"Galbraith Sells Studio: 46 Years in Photo Career." Bud Galbraith. Gives locations and history of his studios. "Galbraith's photo career started 46 years ago [1936] -- 'I started as a snapshot shooter.' He studied 13 years under Oscar Smith who was a photographer in Columbus from 1916 until his retirement in 1951. Smith began his business in the upstairs over the American Security Co. He moved in 1919 to the Rio Theater building where the Crown and Brim shop once operated and then moved to the basement of Rost Jewelers at 409 Fifth in 1938. Galbraith took over Smith's Studio in 1951 and changed the business name in 1963 from Smith Studio to Photo Associates. In 1965 Galbraith moved to 17th and National Raod and changed the operation to Francis O. Galbraith Photographer. He sold the portrait and commercial studio part of the business in 1975 to Jim and Billie Richardson, who later moved it to 1509 25th and changed its name to James L. Richardson Photography. Galbraith in 1975 opened Galbraith Photo Center at the northeast corner of The Commons."

He'll stay on at the business until April as an adviser. . . .Why is Galbraith getting out? 'Frank Hyneman came along and asked if I wanted to sell the business. Well I'm old and tired and want to go fishing and see parts of the country I've never seen before. It didn't take much arm twisting to sell.' .  . . Employees Carolyn Sheets and Alice Thixton will continue working at the business which will retain the Galbraith Photo Center name."
