The lower story was devoted to paint-shop purposes, and the upper to his living room. Earle was fond of reading and was a man of more than ordinary culture. He often indulged his taste for writing poetry and was a frequent contributor to the Cincinnati journals. He was 65 years of age, was born in Yorkshire, England, and has relatives in Worcester, Mass., Baltimore, Md., and hereabouts, but with them he has had little or no communication. He probably died from consumption. Cincinnati Daily Star (Cincinnati, Ohio), Friday, August 2, 1878, p. 3 Newport column - Austin T. Earle, the hermit, mention of whose mysterious death at his home in South Cumminsville was made in Wednesday's Star, was formerly a well known house-painter in this city. It is said his last job of work done in this city was on the old Bailey building on Taylor street, where a newspaper called the "Free South" was published, and before Earle got through with the building a mob carried off the printing press, pitched it into the river and scattered the type over the street. Earle shortly after left the city in disgust. OriginalWorkerTypes: OriginalProcesses: OriginalFormats: OriginalOccupation: poet, sign painter, house painter.
