Museum, Vol. 6, No. 2, June 1997, p. 9: Hicks eventually bought out Nicholson's studio and operated out of several locations on Jefferson St. An 1875 Business Directory lists his studio at the corner of Jefferson and East Water Streets and eventually he settled at 99 1/2 W. Jefferson St. Interestingly, in the 1870s the Hoosier Group artist Samuel Richards opened a portrait painting studio in one of the rooms occupied by Hicks and may have done work for Hicks.
