Obituary: Mazo Lomax is Taken by Death. Mrs. Mazo Lomax, former local photographer, died at 6 o'clock Monday evening at Houston, Tex., where she had gone two weeks ago to be with her sons, Athol and Jewel Lomax, who are employed there, after becoming seriously ill. Mrs. Lomax, who operated a studio here for approximately 20 years before moving to Madison, had not been well for some time, but continued to operate her studio at Madison until a few months ago, when she underwent an operation at the hospital there. After that her condition became worse and her younger son, Athol, came and accomapnied her to Houston. Before coming to Columbus about 25 years ago, she was employed in photographic work in Indianapolis. On coming here she opened a studio which she operated up until moving to Madison in 1941. For a number of years the studio was in the same location at 421 1/2 Washington street, and later at her home on West Fourth street. Won honors at expositions at various times for outstanding work and had photographed many noted persons. In 1930 one of her pictures was hung in the art salon of the Chicago Art Institute, being one of a few selected from more than 200,000 pictures. Another one of her photographs was hung in the Fifth International Salon of Photography held in 1935 at San Diego, Calif., under the auspices of the California-Pacific International expostion. This was a photograph of Ray King, posed as The Modern Smoker, and was chosen with 564 others out of approximately 25,000 entries for the exhibition. She was member of The Christian Science Church. Also survived by 2 grandchildren.
