"Father of Dr. Hayward Dies in Chicago (From Friday's Daily)." Warren Hayward, aged 65, passed away in Wesleyan hospital in Chicago yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock, from gall stones. He formerly lived in this city, and for years owned a photographer's studio. He was probably the most skilled photographer in this section of the state. For the past twenty or more years he has resided in Crown Point, and has operated a studio there. Had been in failing health for past 2 years. Lists children.

Courtland for a time went to high school in Coopersville, Michigan, and then went to Crown Point, Indiana as an apprentice in the photographic studio of Warren Hayward, a relative of our grandmother, Caroline Hayward Muzzall. When I was six Courtland, the oldest of our brothers and sister, completed his training in portrait photography in Crown Point and returned to Grand Haven to open a studio. He had just married Edna Martin of Crown Point when both were 2l.
