Frank Olds was a photographer in Covington for about 20 years from 1870 (and perhaps a bit prior to that) until at least 1890. He married Helen Catherine (Kate) Carlile (Carwile) who died 10-1-1861 - married on the 5th day of February 1843 in Fountain County. They had William; Olive; Emma and Emory (born Feb 1850 - twins - I believe Emory died before the 1860 census); Mary E. and Charles F and 3 others who died. He remarried in 1867 Henrietta Clayton and they had two children, Homer and one who died in infancy.. He passed away Nov 26, 1906, living the last 8-10 years with his daughter, Emma Kirkpatrick in Danville, Illinois where he was almost a complete cripple from rheumtism. As far as I know, none of his children helped in his business. In various census records, Frank was listed as a tailor (apprenticed at age 10 to Baker Spence); artist and then lastly before he retired Photographer. He is buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington. states about her husband "Mr. Olds is badly crippled up from rheumatism, is compelled to use crutches, and can hardly move around even with this aid. He now makes his home with his daughter at Danville."

Frank A. Olds was born July 25th, 1821, at Americus, a small town on the banks of the Wabash six miles above Lafayette.

At the age of ten years, he was apprenticed to Baker Spence, grandfather of our fellow townsman, D.V. Spence, where he learned the trade and afterwards went into business in this city for himself. After some years in this line he learned photography and engaged in the business here and elsewhere until failing health forced him to retire. Almost his entire life was spent as a resident of Covington, having lived here about sixty years, a good citizen.

In his early life he was united in marriage to Catharine Carwile of this community. To this union were born nine children, five dying in infancy. The wife and mother died October 1st, 1861. Their children; Mrs. Emma Kirkpatrick of Mattoon, Ill., Mrs. J.C. Shanklin of Frankfort, and Charles F. Olds of Danville, Ill.

In 1867 he was united in marriage to Henriette Clayton of Hope and to this union were born two children, one, Homer S. Olds, surviving.

Four years ago he entered the I.O.O.F. home at Greensburg, where he died November 26, 1906 aged 85 years, 4 months, and 1 day. Following funeral services at the home his body was brought to this place Wednesday afternoon, when it was taken in charge by the I.O.O.F. lodge, and laid to rest in the Mt. Hope cemetery after the order of the ritualistic services of the order, followed by a closing prayer by Rev. Orton." -
