Benjamin Ashbaucher, fifty-three years of age, of Bluffton, Ind., died after suffering for two weeks with paralysis. He was one of the city's prominent business men and one of the leaders of the First Reformed Church of that city.

BENJAMIN ASHBAUCHER, dealer in pianos, organs and sewing machines at Bluffton, Indiana, is a native of Wayne County, Ohio, born at Orrville, October 19, 1859, the youngest of six sons of John and Anna (Shene) Ashbaucher, natives of Canton Berne, Switzerland, where they were married, and in 1856 came to the United States. They lived in Ohio until 1863, when they moved to French Township, Adams County, Indiana, where they still live. They are members of the German Reformed church at Vera Cruz, Wells County. Benjamin Ashbaucher remained with his parents until 1882, when he entered the employ of H. C. Arnold at Bluffton, and in 1883 engaged in his present business. When but seventeen years of age, while still at home, be began to teach in the schools of French Township, and taught five winter and two summer terms. In 1880 he was elected constable of his township by the Democratic party, and served two years. Mr. Ashbaucher was married August 10, 1882, to Miss Louisa Saurer, daughter of Gotleib and Elizabeth (Moser) Saurer, of French Township, Adams County. Mr. and Mrs. Ashbaucher have one child—Edward, born February 7, 1884. They are members of the English Reformed church at Bluffton. Mr. Ashbaucher is a member of Bluffton Lodge, No. 1838, K. of H.

Bluffton - Sept. 25 - Photographer Benjamin Ashbaugher and Robert Beeson seriously injured when loading stoves on elevator in a livery barn when the elevator fell 15 feet. Beeson probably fatally injured.

From the obituary of George Adam Harnish, he opened the first photography studio in Bluffton, Wells County, in 1872. He sold the business to Benjamin Ashbaucher in 1889.

For some time previous to his establishing of business for himself he did Mr. Ashbaucher's most difficult work, caring for almost all the Ossian patronage which was then controlled by that gentleman. In March 1899, Mr. Baumgardner cut loose from the Bluffton firm and established a studio in the town of Markle.

E. S. Walmer Purchased Ashbaucher Estate Property. Building occupied by the Ashbaucher & Ernsberger photograph gallery and the building occupied by Dr. Severin's office were sold today by the administrator of the estate of the late Benjamin Ashbaucher to Edward S. Walmer for $7,500. Walmer bought the property as investment and the building will be occupied by the present tenants. [Note: Ashbaucher died on March 13, 1912]
