Homer Lloyd Chase, 59, former limestone company employee and long-time worker in the Boy Scout movement, died at 12:20 a.m. today, May 31, 1978, at Dunn Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted Monday.

Mr. Chase, a resident of 2618 Q Street, Bedford, was retired from Indiana Limestone Company and was formerly business agent for Millworkers Local 93. A number of years ago he operated a photo studio here.

Mr. Chase was named 1970 winner of the "Book of Golden Deeds" Award presented by the Bedford Exchange Club. It was the second time he had won the award, having been honored previously for his long time work in Scouting. 

He had been active in Scouting over 20 years, serving as a committeeman and committee chairman of Cub Scout Pack 32 of the Free Methodist Church and later as Scoutmaster of Troop 36, sponsored by the American Legion.

He helped organize Explorer Post 36, sponsored by the 40 & 8, in 1960, and served as post advisor from 1962 to 1968. He later was Southern Trails District camping chairman.

He was a life member of Gillen Post No. 33, American Legion.

He was born June 19, 1918 in Farmington, Minnesota, the son of Clement George and Sallie Castillo Chase. He married Dorthea Hilgerman at Huntingburg, Indiana on February 4, 1945.

Surviving are the wife; two sons, Dale John Chase, British Columbia, and Daniel Owen Chase, Indianapolis; one daughtet, Sarah Hannah, Bedford and one brother, Horace J. Chase, New Albany, IN.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Clement Castillo Chase and Cecil Irving Chase and two sisters, Mary E. and Margaret V. Chase.

Final rites will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary, with the Rev. Robert Anderson in charge. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery at Huntingburg, with graveside rites at 4:00 p.m. Saturday.

Military rites will be given at the grave by members of Gillen Post 33, American Legion. The family suggests contributions be made to Boy Scouts Tribute Fund, Hoosier Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. both Thursday and Friday at the mortuary.
