EducationCareer: Apprenticed with W. H. Harry [Wooster, OH] soon after graduation from high school in 1888. He remained there almost seven years
FamilyInPhotography: brother Martin J. Boosz
OriginalNotes: Biographical Memoirs of Jay County, Indiana, 1901, p. 558-559
George A. Boosz, popular artist, whose meritous work has gained him a firm footing in Portland, Jay County during his short residence here, was born in Wooster, Wayn county Ohio, May 19, 1871. Parents: George and Rachel (Wepler) Boosz, both natives of th German empire. George, Sr., was a brick and stone contractor. They had 6 children: George A.; Lewis, a butcher; Martin J. also a photographer with an art gallery in Cleveland, OH; Henry J., baker; Mary lives at home; Joseph, freight clerk in the Lake Shore offices in Cleveland.

George A. attended the common schools of Wooster and later graduated from the high school of that city. Soon after his graduation, in 1888, he entered the studio of W. H. Harry with whom he remained almost seven years and thoroughly mastered the photographer's art in every detail, becoming even more proficient than his teacher. He now wished to open a studio for himself and with this end in view visited Canton, Ohio, where in August, 1894 he purchased the business and paraphernalia of S. C. Schubart and for four years conducted it in a manner which brought him a large patronage and lucrative income. In 1898 he disposed of the business to James Miller and went to Delphos, Ohio, where he purchased the outfit of S. A. Sheets and on January 1, 1899, opened his gallery. This location did not suit him and on June 1, 1900 he disposed of it to W. S. Porter and after looking around for a suitable location thought favorably of Portland and decided to make that city his headquarters. He purchased the fixtures of J. Theodore Neiberg in August, 1900, and opened a pleasant studio in the building of Cartwright & Headington, where he has done a flattering business, his ability and the excellence of his work meeting with a ready response from the general public who were not slow to perceive that he was an artist in every sense of the word. He not only excells in photography of all kinds, but also enlarges a large number of pictures, finishing them in the most approved manner either in pastelles, crayon, water colors, or turning out bromides and platonides, and is headquaters for anything used in the line of art. He is a decided acquisition to Portland and deserves the high praise he receives on every hand.

On June 6, 1900, just before locatig in this city, Mr. Boosz was joined in marriage to Miss Ethel Lenora Brown, and their union has been sanctified by the blessed addition of a baby girl, Elizabeth Rachel, who came to them on April 12, 1901. Mrs. Boosz is a daughter of John R. and Elizabeth (Waugh) Brown, and is one of 4 daughters [listed]. Boosz is stanch [sic] Republican and honored member of the Presbyterian church, in which both he and his wife are earnest workers. During their short residence in Portland they have bound to themselves many unsweving friends, and the unflinching integrity which has been the motto of their lives has given them an enviable reputation which has followed them from their previous home.
