Verne Patty, born 27 April 1870 Carmel, Indiana. He married Mary Hill. Verne was an editor of the Carmel Standard, an author and curator of the Indiana State Museum. [David Wilson Patty, (John4, James3, Jesse2, James1), born 5 September 1834 Preble County, Ohio. He died in 1911 and was buried in Carmel, Indiana. On 8 August of 1843 David married Margaret J. Fisher. David’s obituary is in the “Frankfort News” Clinton county Indiana on 25 September 1911. He died in Carmel. He was once the sheriff of Hamilton County and later served as prosecutor of Hamilton and Madison Counties. David Wilson Patty was an attorney and lived in Carmel, Indiana. Margaret’s obituary is in the “Frankfort Banner” of Clinton County, IN page 8 on 14 May 1904.]

Undated articles in Carmel-Clay Historical Society, Patty Genealogy File: Verne Patty was the lone curator of the Indiana State Museum for at least 29 years. At age 88 he had a stroke in "his cluttered office" in the basement of the Indiana Statehouse. His wife runs an antique shop in their home in Carmel."

Summit Lawn Cemetery, Westfield. Tombstone: Verne Patty, 1870-1958; Mary Patty, 1884-1965; The entry states that Verne was the son of John Patty and Elizabeth Wilson [NOTE: This is incorrect.]. Wife was Mary Montgomery Patty. Her other spouse was Earl Beck Hill

Newspapers 
Our first newspaper, "The Carmel Signal," was first issued October 13th, 1889, by L. J. Patty and L. J. Small, but after a time Mr. Patty dropped out and it was edited and published by L. J. Small, and later by Ed E. Small, Vern Patty, George Bowen and Hal Small, each had charg-e of it, but the day of discontinuance arrived August 10th, 1893. 

After this another was published for a short time by "Shorty" from Tipton I think called "The Carmel Register." Later commenced the "Carmel Star" by Verne Patty, and now we have the "Carmel Standard," published by Roberts and Patty, which, let us hope, may be long" continued.
