Part of undated/unsources obituary from Find A Grave: Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Mohall Methodist Church for George W Barcus, 90, who passed away the morning of November 3rd. Mr. Barcus had homesteaded south of Tolley in 1902 and spent his lifetime in Renville County. During his lifetime he had enjoyed remarkable good health. He spent all of his winters right here and there were very few days he did not get down town to check on his friends. It was on October 11th that he entered the RBM hospital for what might properly be termed his first and last illness. George Warner Barcus was born in DesMoines, Iowa, April 17, 1869. He was the son of Mary Elizabeth Hoaglund Barcus and John Barcus. He married Miss Nora Etta Courtney on December 23, 1896. He first came to North Dakota, settling near Tolley, in 1902. He was named mail carrier out of Mohall from 1911 to 1934. During his lifetime he had served on the school boards in both Brandon and Roosevelt. He also served on the Brandon township board. During the 30's he was farming north of Mohall and retained his farming interests up to the time of his demise. He attended the Mohall Methodist Church. In later years he developed quite an interest in Bible reading and recognized no peers in this field. Two children preceded their father in death. A son Kenneth, passed away in 1914, and a daughter Mrs. Lee (Eula) Steeves, died in 1950. In addition to being survived by his wife, there are four sons and three daughters. The sons include Russell of Minot, Virgil of Spokane Washington, Earl of Juneau Alaska, and Wallace of Tollhouse California. The daughers are Sylvia Duerre of Mohall, Rachel Aune of Grand Forks and Georgia Jesperson of Sacramento, California. His grandchildren number 20 and his great grandchildren totaled 14. One sister, Mrs. Berta Huffman of Danville, Illinois also survives. Mrs. And Mrs. Barcus marked their 63rd wedding anniversary in April of this year. It would take a full book to cover their colorful life. Their Sunday school and literary society experiences here in the early days made good copy. Then there was a photography shop in Tolley, a coal mining experience in northern Ward, and the raising of purebred Holsteins which held his interest for several years.
