Published in The Rochester News-Sentinel, Saturday, January 5, 1963 Mrs. Ruth ELLIOTT JESSEN, 79, native of Fulton county, died Friday at Lynwood Convalescent hospital in Lynwood, Cal. Her only immediate survivor is a sister, Mrs. Florence HENDRICKSON, R.R. 3, Kewanna. Mrs. Jessen was the wife of J. Carl JESSEN, Rochester newsman and editor at the turn of the century, who died in 1956. The Jessens resided many years at LaCanada, Cal. Mrs. Jessen was born at Fletcher's Lake on Sept. 25, 1883, the daughter of David and Margaret McCAUGHEY ELLIOTT. She was a graduate of Rochester high school and of the Illinois College of Photographers. She and her brother, Hugh ELLIOTT, operated a photographic studio in Rochester from 1901 to 1908. The Jensens were married April 3, 1909. Mrs. Jessen was a charter member of the La Canada Presbyterian church. An infant daughter, a sister, Mrs. Albert (Clara Belle) SMAILES and the brother, Hugh, also preceded her in death. The sister, Mrs. Hendrickson, and several cousins are the only survivors. ----- Published in The Rochester News-Sentinel, Thursday, January 17, 1963 Memorial services for Mrs. Ruth ELLIOTT JESSEN, 79, a native of Fulton county who died Jan. 4 in Lynwood, Cal., will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home here. The Rev. James A. SCHUMACHER will officiate. Mrs. Jessen was the wife of J. Carl JESSEN, Rochester newsman and editor at the turn of the century, who died in 1956. The Jessens resided many years at La Canada, Cal. Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Florance (Frances) HENDRICKSON, R.R. 3, Kewanna; a niece, Mrs. Margaret WINELAND, Monticello; a nephew, George HENDRICKSON, Philadelphis, Pa., and several cousins. The Rochester News-Sentinel, Thursday, April 21, 1910, Obituary he and Mrs. Carl JESSEN of Kewanna, engaged in the photograph business in this city and successfully managed the studio for several years. On account of Mr. Elliott's failing health he decided to seek a different climate and accordingly went to Winslow, Arizona, in the fall of 1908. His health improved and he came home the following June. He remained here until October, when his health grew worse and accompanied by his mother, returned to Arizona. After remaining there a short time they went to Needles, California, where he had charge of a studio for a short time.
