Alexander Hugh Elliott, b. 10 Oct. 1879 in Fulton Co, IN, d. Chicago 23 Apr 1910; age 30, photographer, single, buried Rochester, Father David, mother Margaret McCaughey, both b. Fulton Co

Published in The Rochester News-Sentinel
Thursday, April 21, 1910
The sad news of the death of Hugh ELLIOTT of this city, was received at 3 o'clock this afternoon from Chicago, where he died at the Presbyterian hospital, as the result of a recent operation. Mr. Elliott is the son of Mrs. Margaret ELLIOTT of this city, and made his home in Rochester nearly all his life, having been born at Fletcher, October 10, 1879. He attended the Rochester public schools and graduated from the city High school. Later he and Mrs. Carl JESSEN of Kewanna, engaged in the photograph business in this city and successfully managed the studio for several years. On account of Mr. Elliott's failing health he decided to seek a different climate and accordingly went to Winslow, Arizona, in the fall of 1908. His health improved and he came home the following June. He remained here until October, when his health grew worse and accompanied by his mother, returned to Arizona. After remaining there a short time they went to Needles, California, where he had charge of a studio for a short time. About a month ago they returned on account of his serious condition and stopped off at Chicago, where he entered the Presbyterian hospital to take treatment. It was later decided that an operation was necessary and his death resulted today.
Mr. Elliott was an active member of the Presbyterian church, having joined that church when twelve years of age and was highly respected by a wide circle of friends, who deeply regret his death. For a number of years he acted as reporter on both The Sentinel and Republican papers of this city, and won many friends by his modest, unasuming manner, while so engaged. He was a member of the local order of Knights of Pythias.
Besides a mother he leaves three sisters, Misses Clara Belle [ELLIOTT] and Frances [ELLIOTT], city, and Mrs. J. C. JESSEN, Kewanna.
The body will arrive Friday afternoon at 1:35 o'clock and the funeral will be held Saturday morning at 11 o'clock.

Hugh Elliott will return from Winslow, Arizona, and reopen the Elliott Studio on or about May 25.

ELLIOTT STUDIO SOLD
A deal was consummated today whereby the Elliotts disposed of their photographic shop to Edwin A. Heiersderfer of Celina, O., who will take possession about July 20. Mr. Heiersderfer comes recommended as an expert photographer and a good artist and will no doubt give the same satisfaction which the Elliotts have in the past. He is at present connected with the Lewis studio at Celina. The retiring owners, the Elliotts, have always given much satisfaction to patrons and have added considerable to the up-to-dateness of the town by their excellent work. Mr. Hugh Elliott, who has been in poor health for some time and is at present in charge of the studio, will give up possession about July 20. He does not know at present what he will do.
