OriginalNotes: Obituary for Amos Bowers, "Huntington Press," Huntington Co., In., Thursday, 21 July 1921
ERIE ACCIDENT FATAL TO AMOS BOWERS, 73
Amos Bowers, seventy-three years old, of 1429 Kacher Street, who was struck by an Erie freight train at 10:45 o'clock yesterday morning near the East State street crossing died at 7 o'clock last evening at the Huntington county hospital where he was removed following the accident. Death was due to shock. His right foot was severed above the ankle and his left foot was cut off across the toes. He also suffered a deep gash in his head when he fell across the ties. Mr. Bowers had been in a feeble condition for several months, following a stroke of paralysis. Yesterday morning he had gone to the tracks to gather pieces of coal and it is thought he did not hear the approaching train. He was seen on the west side of the east main track by members of the train crew but they were unable to flag the engineer. Mr. Bowers was born February 16, 1848, in Ohio, to Daniel and Mary Bowers. He came to Huntington county with his parents when he was six years old. His marriage was to Mary J. Hoover. They would have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary March 14, 1922. Four children were born to them, two whom are deceased. Surviving is one son, Charles Bowers, a photographer of this city, and one daughter, Mrs. Lewis Farling of Muncie. One grandson Paul Farling and three brothers, George Jacob and Orlando Bowers are living. Funeral services for Mr. Bowers will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Evangelical church of which he was a member. Burial will be in the Zion cemetery.
