OriginalNotes: Ferdinand, p. 45-46: [gives dates and places] he came to Ferdinand as a young man. It seems his first venture was in opening the Tempel coal mine; yrs. Later he also opened a mine on the John Hoffman farm. After marriage (Ida's dates were 1879-1959) they erected the building on SW corner of 9th and main Sts. where a saloon was opened with living quarters upstairs. (F. News, source). In 1896 he wrote Articles of Assoc. of the German Mutual Fire Insurance Assoc. and served as Sec. He also wrote similar articles for the Farmers Elgin Creamery Co. in 1903. He wrote Wills and did notarial work in which his wife, a Notary Public, ably assisted him. He was Sec. of Ferdinand Building Loan and Savings Assoc. No. 3 which began business in April 1888 and it was reported (J. Courier of April 1888) "sold money varying from 10 to 12.5 and 15 % to purchasers preparing to build homes". They were still in buisiness in 1912. In 1906, he advertised the photographic studio where he and aslo Mr. Sprauer took and made pictures. He was one of the original supporters of The Ferdinand News in 1906 which was started in the old Gohmann Building owned by Quantes. Here he also once had a cigar factory. He also opened a saloon in the old Judy Building on N. Main St. which was operated by John Stallman and sold to Ed. Bromm in 1908. In 1907, he purchased the stock of merchandise from Franz Quante & Co. and opened a store in his saloon building with Ben Grewe as clerk; but in 1909 they held a closing-out sale (F. News). In Aug. 1910 he bought an interest in the Brewery of Ferdinand; and around those years he was also again in the saloon business at the old stand. He bought and operated the Senninger farm and also held an insurance agency. During the summer of 1924 the ground-floor room was made ready for a moving picture show-house. In Oct. that yr. The Indiana Theatre, Star later, was operating. Their son, Hilbert Quante, was operator in the projection room. After Mr. Quante's death in May 1927, his widow continued the various business operations until some time before her death April 5, 1959.

OriginalSource: Ferdinand, p. 45-46: In 1906 he advertised the photographic Studio where he and also Mr. Sprauer took and made pictures. [From this article, it appears that the studio was probably in the Quante Building, which was built after Quante's marriage in 1897. It was on the SW corner of 9th and Main Sts. It also housed a saloon and the Quante's living quarters upstairs. A photo of it appears on p. 45. In 1907 it housed a general store and in 1927 the Indiana-Star Theatre. It's location was 9th on the west side of Main St. Quante also owned the Gohmann Building which housed the Ferdinand News in 1906.]
