Smith & Dryer, just opened in the rooms over and back of R. R. Parker's furnishing store, and that which is so rare a thing for the photographic business--the gallery is reached by a single flight of stairs. This the wide-awake proprietors accomplished by renting the rear rooms as above stated, and then constructing on the unoccupied space back of them their own buildings and skylights, specially adapted to their business, with every modern attachment for securing the finer effects known to the photographic art. Mr. George W. Dryer is well known by his long connection with the Judkins gallery, and is not only thoroughly practical in general photographic work but is expert in the use of the brush for retouching, tinting, India ink, etc. Mr. A. J. Smith is also well known in the city for thorough business habits. Altogether the firm is the strongest that could have been constituted for the business. The reception and operating rooms are delightful in attractions for their patrons, and nothing seems wanting to insure the largest success. 1880 R. L.
