OriginalNotes: Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, July 3, 1912, p. 5, c. 4 Chauncey R. Jenne, Former Local Business man in Dead at Toronto
Chancey R. Jenne, for over thirty years a resident of this city, died of kidney trouble Sunday morning at Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 75 years. He was born in Lewis county, New York, and when a young man came west and was married at St. Joseph, Mo. To Miss Susan L. Chadwick. A little over thirty years ago the family moved to Fort Wayne. Mr. Jenne was the pioneer dynamite man in this state, having introduced the blasting of stumps by dynamite. He was also engaged in clearing up the right of way for the Nickel Plate railroad at the time of its construction, as well as clearing up the stumps from the Bass farm and many other large farms in this and surrounding counties. Later on, when the farmers became better acquainted with the use of dynamite Mr. Jenne took the Western agency for the Hercules Powder company and maintainted two large magazines south of the city. Several years ago he left the dynamite business and had been engaged in installiing acetylene gas lighting plants. Two years ago hee left his business here in charge of his son Edward and moved to Toronto. Mr. jenne is survived by his wife and three sons--Fred and Edward, of this city, and Frank, of Los Angeles. While a resident of this city he was a member of the First Baptist church. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made and announcement will be made later.

Jenne Camera Manufacturing
Posted by Nancy McCammon-Hansen

C.R. Jenne moved his company—Jenne Camera Mfg. Co.-- to Fort Wayne in 1892 and manufactured the Solar Rayon. This was a combination sun or lamp sketching camera, “designed for use of both professional and amateur artists of any one doing any kind of drawing, painting or enlarging small pictures to life-size. The Solar Rayon is made in four different sizes, the largest size being capable of use as a magic lantern, as a sketching camera, as a bromide painting camera, and as a photographic camera, and in each of these performances it has no equal on the market.”

Smaller sizes were used for sketching only and were operated only by the sun. A third size combined both a lamp and sun sketching cameras. The company produced an illustrated catalog of their products.

According to “The Industries of Fort Wayne”, published in 1895,

“The products are unquestionably the best of the kind ever invented and their usefulness is daily becoming more universally recognized.”
