In those days photographic film was unknown and glass plates were used. He was master of his trade. He constructed his own portrait camera with the exception of the lens. He made his own shutters and slide-holders, and made some holders to take multiple pictures on one negative. He was also talented artist and painted the backdrop for his studio.He made his bench for customers to sit on. After some 22 yrs. in 1930 he moved his studio to Ghent, KY, where he had been a resident.
