The Sanborn Insurance map for 1890 shows a photo gallery at 204 Boots (behind a building labeled "P.O.") occupying a one-story building with a skylight on the 2nd story." Souvenir of Marion, 1892, p. 31 photo of interior of Larrimer's photograph gallery; Larrimers' The above cut represent the place of business of the Larrimer Bros., who photographed nearly all the pictures seen upon these pages. The Larrimers are young men, Ben being but 27 and Al but 23 yrs. Old, but they are experts in the picture business and have built up an immense trade at their place on Boots street, just at the rear of the post office. During their 3 yrs. Of business here, they have place themselves at the front of the profession in this part of the state. Prior to engaging in business here Mr. Ben Larrimer was in business for a time in both Kansas City and Chicago. They do the most difficult kind of photography work, both in doors and out and on account of the high grade of work are always crowded. In addition to being artists in the line of their work, the Larrimers are also artists in a musical sense. Ben, especially, is a fine performer upon the mandolin, and is the leader of the mandolin orchestra, a very popular kind of music at the present, especially in theis section of the country. Ben Lorrimer, one of the proprietors, escaped with severe burns about the face and hands. Miss Grace Speakman was found unconscious, injuries may be fatal. Alfred Greenman hurt but will recover. The building completely collapsed. There are various theories as to the cause of the explosion, but it was doubtless due to escaping gas, the odor of which had previously been noticed. Hartford City Telegram, Nov. 7, 1894, p. 5 The gas company at Marion, after an investigation, admits that the explosion which destroyed Larimer's photograph gallery was caused by natural gas which leaked from the company's mains and accumulated under the building. Sandusky Register (Sandusky, OH), Oct. 25, 1894, p. 1 Natural Gas Explosion, Marion, Ind., Oct. 24 -- Larrimer Brothers' photograph gallery was completely wrecked this evening by an explosion of natural gas. The one-story brick building was leveled to the ground ant the windows in L. M. Whisler's house across the alley were blown out.
