Travelled with Sam's Car and learned photography  until May 3, 1858 when he "Commenced packing up for starting home. ___? have finished drafting a car for me to build one by."

Indiana Sesquicentennial Manuscript Project, Orlanda Swain Daybook, Mss. 33/Mss. 100?,  Loaned for microfilming by Dr. C. C. Keffer, Union City.  [NOTE: 2 of Cephus Huddleston's sisters married Keffers] In beginning of book "b. Sept. 10, 1833, d. Mar. 8, 1862, Cottage Grove, Union Co., Ind."  discusses farming in Cottage Grove, Union Water Cure where he stayed during Winter 1854/55 because of illness, spiritualism circles, travels with "Sam's daguerrean car" during winter of 1857/58 through Liberty, Brownsville, Connersville to settle on the Blue River near Swain's Mill in Rush Co., then to Manilla; discusses learning photography, copying work, pre-mortem photograph, no. of images made daily, "loafers" who don't buy, family; returned to farming in summer of 1858; June 1858 bought lumber to build his own car, 29th commenced framing, discusses making through fall of 1858: glass in car windows, painting, hanging shutters, started making pictures Oct. 1, Oct. 3 made $27.50 and took about 40 pictures (in Richmond?, Oct. 11 lined car with muslin, Nov. 1 making background, Nov. 20 finished my car inside today; Nov. 21 took several pictures just for specimens; Dec. 20 worked on showcase; Apr. moved to College Corner, Oh; May in Union Church and Mixerville; discusses travels mainly in Fayette and Franklin Cos; Dec. 1, 1861 having night sweats; Jan 1, 1862 Dr. says he has dropsy; handwriting deteriorates, living with relatives, swollen legs, d. Mar. 8 1862.
