History of Randolph Co., Indiana, Illustrated, 1882 (E. Tucker), opp. p. 465: long write-up with portrait of Masslich. Gives birth and marriage information. Resident of Union City since Apr. 1859. Learned trade of printer in PA giving it up due to ill health. Came to Montgomery Co., OH and did surveying and taught music. Returned to Litiz, PA to m. Bachman. They came almost immediately to Union City where he succeeded in acquiring a scant livlihood contending constantly with misforture, sickness, & death losing in 6 yrs. three children, and his wife who d. June 1, 1865. During this period he was employed in the jewelry trade, in photography, etc. buying in Mar. 1864 an interest in the Union City Eagle. [the rest of the article details his newspaper business and civic interestes. He was married 3 times.]
