Neiswanger, veteran photographer at Muncie and past president of exclusive Daguerre Club of Indiana, one of best known art photographers in eastern Indiana, b. on farm 2 miles north of Cambridge City on September 3, 1865, son of George and Mary Neiswanger, the latter a native of Maryland. Charles completed schooling in the Southern Indiana Normal School at Mitchell, Ind. And graduated from there in 1888. Taught 3 terms of school then took up study of photography, entering services as apprentice in that behalf to a local photographer to whom he paid $25 for the privilege. For the first 3 months of this apprenticeship he worked without pay and during the succeeding 6 months was paid at the rate of $3 a week. Upon acquiring a knowledge of "the art and mystery" of the craft he kept on at Muncie for while then went to Seneca Falls NY where he became engaged in business on his own behalf. Not long afterward he moved to Cincinnati and in that city was engaged in business as photographer until in 1896, when he returned to Muncie and opened a studio on West Adams street. He presently recognized the need of better quarters and moved his studio to a location on East Main street, where he remained until in 1902, when he moved to his present location at 210 E Washington street, where he ever since has been located, a period of 22 years. In 1914 he erected his present capacious studio building, the only building in Muncie constructed especially for studio purposes, and has there an admirable establishment, equipped in thoroughly up-to-date fashion to meet all demands of his exacting custom. He is member of the exclusive Daguerre Club of Indiana and has rendered service to his profession as a president of that club. He also is member of the Tri-State (Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana) Association of Photographers and has done his part in advancing the cause of art photography, with particular reference to portraiture, throughout the middle West. Freemason and member of order of Knights of Pythias, Methodist Episcopal church. Married Jennie McCormick. Son Robert M. Neiswanger, who in 1921 married Hope Stine, of Bluffton, who is actively associated with his father in business, operating the Neiswanger studio. For nearly 30 years Mr. Neiswanger has been engaged in business in Muncie and is thus recognized as the oldest photographer in point of continuous service in the city. 1950 - Indiana Death Certificates, Charles W.
