Madison following 17 mo. Illness. Was native and life-resident of Madison. Lists son and grandaughter as survivors. His wife preceded him in death about 25 yrs. Ago. He resided until his last illness at 503 1/2 W. Main St. Vail Funeral Home; Springdale Cemetery.

Death Claims Herbert M. Flora
Herbert M. Flora, 82, a retired Madison photographer, died at 10:30 o'clock yesterday morning in the Obermale nursing home at North Madison, folloiwng a 17 months illness. Mr. Flora was a native and life resident of Madison. For many years he operated a studio in the east portion of what is now the Edward Eckert & Sons store on east Main street. He first was engaged in the portrait business, but later concentrated on scenic views of Madison and its environs. He was a pioneer in the view photo business here and numerous postcard colored views now being sold in this city may be traced back to his early negatives. He was the originator of the most popular picture of Clifty Falls which was taken many years before the state park was established. The deceased is survived only by a son, Ervin B. Flora, a city mail carrier, and a granddaughter, Rebecca Flora, also of this city. His wife, the late Mrs. Rebecca Schafer Flora, preceded him in death about 25 years ago. He resided until his last illness at 603½ west Main street. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow morning at 10:00 o'clock in the Vail Memorial funeral home and burial will be in Springdale cemetery. Friends may call at the memorial.

She was youngest daughter of late Mrs. and Mrs. Andrew Schafer and was born in Patriot in June 1869. Schafer family had resided for number of yrs. In Madison prior to her birth. Married in June 1869 to Mr. Herbert M. Flora, 2 children: daughter (dead) and one son Mr. Irwin Flora. [Note: marriage date is same as birth date in obit.] She was member of First Baptist Church. Buried Flora family lot, Springdale Cemetery.

He does the better kind of photographic work in all its branches, both inside and outside, takes orders for the very best grades of enlargements in sepia and oil, carries a line of novelty frames, and is a large wholesale and retail dealer in Post Cards. He carries the largest line of local views and other post cards in Southern Indiana, and about any piece of scenery in , or around, Madison, can be found at his studio either on a post card or photograph. He also carries a full line of cameras, kodaks, film, paper, dry plates and everything used by the amateur photographer and does printing and developing for amateurs. He has been in business for so many years in Madison that his work is well and favorably known, not only in this city, but throughout all this section of the country.
