NEWSPAPERS: Indianapolis Sunday Star, 3 Nov. 1907, "The First Daguerreotype Made in Indiana," [mistakenly] states that he made 1st dag. in Indiana in 1844; he taught 4 yrs. in NY state, moved to Franklin Co., Ind. in 1843 and took up a Hoosier school.  Summer of 1844 he went to Fairfield and worked as harvest hand.  Later he taught the village school for 3 months at $20 per month. In 1853 he began his connection with Brookville College, where he taught science and mathematics for $6 per week.  In 1857 went to Morristown to take charge of the seminary at that place and taught there until 1885, when he was forced to retire.His teaching covered a period of 50 yrs., during which he missed but 4. One yr., shortly after his marriage, he attended a medical college and 3 yrs he spent in a trip to the gold fields of CA.  He left his wife (Phoebe Jane Shirk) and baby son and returned from the west to discover that his wife had been buried but a few days before he reached home.
