A Hist. of Blackford Co. (1986), p. 197: mentions parents and dates of Nelson.
COLLECTIONS: IHS, Cecil Beeson Collection has many Nelson photographs and glass negatives; manuscripts, Box 14 has ledgers/order book of N. E. Nelson Photo Studio, 1912-23. [since this entry IHS has discovered other ledgers, 1912-1930s, some are also at the Blackford Co. Hist. Soc.]. Louise, a volunteer at the Blackford Co. Historical Society, says that the city hauled his negatives to the dump, but Cecil Beeson rescued them. BCHS also has his camera.

Much of his present equipment was purchased during this time. In 1916 he purchase the Franzlau Studio and combined with his. Ernie was the first local photographer to abandon the galss negative in favor of the celluloid-base film--about 1915. Photographs by Arnold McCombs. Article about Noble Ernest Nelson of Hartford City. "In 1920, the N. E. Nelson Studio was just about as it is today--both inside and out--when a young photogrpaher names Noble Ernest Nelson decided it was time to hand out his own shingle on his own building. In those 48 years, and before, "Ernie" has made thousands of photographs with the same equipment he uses today." Described builind with large paneled skylight extending from the foundation and angled over the rooftop. The skylight constructed by Nelson, it hailstorm destroyed it in his first year of business, but he rebuilt it. Describes taking panoramic photos, his equipment such as 100-year old backdrop holder and headrest, a half-century old enlarger (pictured), antique cutting machine.
