OriginalNotes: PARTNERS: According to a phone conversation with Joan Hostetler, Bob Hoagland, 1992 owner of the Harrington Studio, Mrs. Harrington helped with the studio.  Mr. and Mrs. Rangel (Rosendo and Armenia) were brought in from Chicago to help with the studio in 1925.  In 1992 Mrs. Rangel was about age 85 and still lived in Logansport.

Harrington about age 20 when he built the 2-story building in 1898 for his apt. and studio.  In 1920 he produced a booklet for Kodak called "The Studio Light," describing Harrington studio techniques.  At one time Harrington operated 3 studios, the others in Michigan and Illinois

OTHER: 4 Nov 1992 phone interview, Harrington Studio (219) 753-3282,Bob Hoagland, owner: Most of the 1898-1912 negatives were destroyed by the flood, although he has many glass negs that he hasn't looked at.  He prints and sells images from the 8"x10" acetate negs (schools, buildings, teams).  He has the Kodak pamphlets, photos of Mr. & Mrs. Harrington, and 1910-15 era interior and exterior original photographs of the studio.

The Cass Co. Historical Society acquired (purchased?) the Harrington negatives in the summer or fall of 1993.

Constructed about 1895, this structure was the long time residence of well-known Indiana photographer, Ormus L. Harrington. Mr. Harrington occupied 419 5th Street in c. 1891, and it remained at this location until his death, when commercial photograpaher Rosendo Rangel took over the studio but continued to operate under Harrington's name. Mr. Harrington won Indiana state photographic honors in 1906, 1907, and 1908, and had a reputation as "one of the ablest men in his work in the state of Indiana." The building exhibits a mixture of Queen Anne and Louis Sullivan-type detailing (stylized floral and circular geometric detailing). The second level bay window is carved with diamond and roundel patterns, and the main level window and door are surrounded by limestone quoining. A colorful stain glass window in five lights is a prominent feature on this noteworthy building.
