Judkins is a good photographer and has a good gallery, and gets $5.00 for cards, but I regret to say that at another gallery in the city, owned by him, he hangs out a $2.00 sign. I believe that no man in the business knows better than does L.D.J. that $2.00 is not the best thing.

24 Jan. L. D. Judkins photographing the legislature
14 Mar. Judkins made 700 photos for the legislators last week.
24 Oct. Fire last night scorched photographer Judkins' outfit, doing considerable damage.
31 Oct. Judkins lost over 3000 negatives by the fire last week Wednesday, but saved most of his recent ones including his valuable legislative groups.  He will be ready for business again about the 15th.
1890:
30 Jan. Judkins expects to work again next week (after tussle with la grippe) and complete his photographic group of the legislators.
5 June: Judkins had been unwell, but expects to reopen his gallery soon in the Anderson Building on 3rd St.  Between fire and la grippe he has had a hard time this spring.

Bismarck Tribune, 15 Aug. 1890, p. 3 Obit. of L. D. Judkins:
He moved west because his doctor advised him to go to a drier climate.  Arrived at Bismarck in September 1882, where he 1st started up in his business in a tent at the spot now occupied by Joseph Hare's old store on Main St.  Remained there during the winter and in May 1883 he moved into building on 3rd St, where he remained until it was destroyed by fire this year.  The building was sufficiently repaired, but he was never able to enter it again. In 1883 he filed on his claim, about 7 miles from the city, and had just received his letters patent.  Attacked with the grip about January 1, 1890, never entirely recovered.
