Nowland, (1877, Indianapolis), p. 449-450: write-up about Dr. Abner Pope, a Quaker who had doctor's shop and store on the north side of Washington St., near where Trade Palace now stands. He came to Indianapolis from Baltimore, MD in spring of 1836. Two children still living in city: Edward, proprietor and editor of the Sun, and Mrs. Mary Potts, one of most accomplished photographists of city. Dr. Pope left his heirs quite wealthy, having at the time of his death considerable real estate in and near the city. Indiana State Sentinel, July 31, 1889, p. 5 - Prints two historic letters owned by Mrs. Mary A. (Pope) Potts. States that the letter from President Taylor was addressed to Mr. James R.
