Central Trust Company Indianapolis Star, 16 Mar. 1907, p. 11 - Elaborate Studio Planned - C. C. Pike will give attention to sketch effects in photographs. A photographic studio, which, it is said, will be the most elaborate in the city, will be opened in the property owned by Volney T. Malott, pres. Of the Indiana National Bank, known as the old Ballard home, 539 N. Meridian street, on or about April 5. The studio will be opened by C. C. Pike, now located at 312 N. Illinois street, who has a five-year lease on the property. "We began work on the place this week," said Mr. Pike last night, "and we will put it in order as rapidly as possible. It is necessary to rearrange the interior before the place can be made to suit our purpose. We propose to give the studio as much of a home-like effect as possible. The predominating color in the decorations will be a dark green. Thewalls of some of the rooms will be frescoed and those of others will be papered. The color of the paper, however, will likely be green throughout. We have not yet decided upon the kind of woodwork to be used, but it will be in harmony with the other features. "One of the rooms will be transformed into a reception hall. The furniture in this room will be of mahogany and of a colonial sytle. One room will be furnished to resemble a home parlor, the furniture being of mahogany, the floor being covered with imported rugs and the wall paper of the very latest design. The display room will contain black oak furniture of the Old Mission style. We expect to have the largest and most thoroughly equipped dressing room in the city. The draperies throughout the studio will be of soft tints." Mr. Pike expects to enlarge his working force and to introduce many new ideas in photographic work. He will give special attention to sketch effects in photographs,he says. Indianapolis Star, 2 Mar. 1911, p. 6 - Fire originating from a defective furnace wrought damage estimated at about $1000 to the C. C. Pike photograph studio and the millenery store of Mrs. M. C. Tierney, in a former residence building, 539 N. Meridian St., about 1:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The damage is covered by insurance. Indianapolis News, 2 Mar. 1911, p. 20 - Tramp Cat Saves Building - The frightened cries and actions of a cat in the furnace room of a former residence building at 539 North Meridian street, led to the discovery of fire in the basement yesterday afternoon. The building was saved. It is occupied by the C. C. Pike photographic studio and the millinery store of Mrs. M. C. Tierney. The cat is a tramp. When the furnace began to smoke and finally set fire to the timbers of the house the cat aroused an employee. The damage was $1,000. 1913 Indianapolis Blue Book, p. 18 ad for North H.
