When I was six Courtland, the oldest of our brothers and sister, completed his training in portrait photography in Crown Point and returned to Grand Haven to open a studio. He had just married Edna Martin of Crown Point when both were 2l. As with most young people the financial going was rough for awhile but he soon built up a good business. Mother soon found herself involved and became his assistant, acting as a receptionist and performed many other tasks.
