Asking $645 but accepted best offer from the Indiana Historical Society: Circa 1862 photo scrapbook or album belonging to Joseph Reese of Morgan County, Indiana. Filled with photographs of his acquaintances. Many of the photos are carte-de-visite sized but do not have the mount cards as they are glued directly to the paper pages. The album or scrapbook is comprised of 48 sheets of paper with images glued on both sides thus a total of 96 pages. Actual individual photographs total 161. Marblized paperboard covers and printed ruled paper. Approximate size is 6-1/4" X 8" X 1/2" thick. Third page of album has pencil handwritten title reading: "Mr. Joseph Reese Photograph Scrapbook". Almost every image in the album has a pencil written identification of the sitter. Images of interest include; Professor Miller of the Morgan County Clarion (Newspaper that ceased in 1863), 2 possible postmortems, Artist Wilson of Cincinnati Ohio, John Stump (shirtless boxer?), 4" X 5" oval outdoor winter scene of the Morgan County Court House, image of "Jo. Reese" in dashing flamboyant attire (probably album owner and photographer), 2 identified as doctors, and 6 identified Civil War soldiers. Soldiers are as follows; Col. J.K. Scott of the 59th Indiana Volunteers, David Day, Mr. Thomas (with rifle), Mr. Walles, Lieutenant Randell, and J.S. Smith. (Online research shows that an 1864 Civil War diary of Col. J.K. Scott existed and has been transcribed from the original with an introduction by Col. H. Engerud. It was published in 1962 and OCLC references Indiana University as a source.)
