PURCELL, C.W., daguerreotypist. 128 Baltimore (August 1849-April 1850). BA.
Daguerreotypes-- We have recently taken occasion to notice several of the
most prominent establishments in this city which have introduced into their
practice the late improvements in this beautiful art. Among them we would
direct attention to the rooms of Mr. C.W. Purcell, No. 128 Baltimore street.
This gentleman was formerly an operator for Mr. Plumbe, but most recently
for Messrs. Broadbent & Cary, the beautiful style of whose pictures
attracted general commendation. The process of coloring adopted by Mr.
Purcell gives to his pictures a very natural appearance, while their execution
in every other respect is most finished. Mr. P. evinces a great degree of taste
in the arrangement of the sitter, so that his portraits are free from that stiffness
which is frequently noticed in works of this kind. Those who may be
disposed to have their own likenesses taken, or may wish to secure those of
their friends, can feel assured that they will be done in the most approved
style at Mr. Purcell's establishment. BA, August 9, 1849.

City Daguerreian Gallery, Meridian Street, one door north of Washington Street. Messrs. Bowers and Purcell take pleasure in announcing to the ladies and gentlemen of Indianapolis and strangers visiting the city, that they have just opened an elegant set of rooms in Mr. Dunlop's new building, arranged expressly, under their own direction, for a Daguerreian Gallery. Having procured the best and most highly improved and approved instruments, and their materials all being of the very best character, and having a splendid sky and side-light, they feel assured that they are prepared to take pictures which cannot be excelled either as correct likenesses or as specimens of artistic skill. They are enabled by a new and peculiar process, to take pictures of children as perfectly as of adults. Ladies and gentlemen are invited to call and examine specimens. Jy29dly
Indianapolis Daily Sentinel, March 22, 1854
We were shown yesterday a very large Daguerreotype plate, containing the likeness of George Low, Esq., and the men in his employ at his large carriage manufactory. The likenesses, which are most excellently done, were taken by Bowers & Purcell, Daguerreotypists. They were taken for the employees of Mr. Low, and presented to him by them. Such an incident tells favorably for the sentiment of mutual kindness and respect existing between employer and employees.

Charley Purcell, who started the Metropolitan Gallery in this city, and who has been engaged for several yrs. as principal operator at the celebrated establishment of Porter in Cincinnati, and who is one of most accomplished and skillful daguerrean artists in the country, has taken old Metropolitan again.
Indianapolis Daily Journal, 3 Oct. 1859, p. 3
In announcing the return of Mr. Purcell, the daguerrean artist, to this city, on Saturday, we stated that he had purchased his old gallery, the "Metropolitan." This was a mistake. We meant to have said the "City Gallery" on Meridian street, which was opened by Messrs. Purcell & Bowers, but we have been accustomed to hearing of the Metropolitan, the name slipped in unconsciously.

The ladies say they are not a bad looking set of men, although there are not real lady killers amongst them. As the pictures remain but a few days longer in the gallery, we advise those who wish to look upon a fine collection of pictures to take a stroll through Purcell's rooms.

It is commenable [sic] in Mrs. Purcell to try and support herself during her husband's absence, and we hope the people will patronize her as she deserves.
