NameMaiden: PersonHonorificTypeID: OriginalSource: Richmond Palladium, July 17, 1850, p. 4 Long ad - Boswell's Daguerrean Gallery of Latest Improvements is now permanently established in Richmond, and opened with a genuine full size Voigtland Instrument, which affords a decided advantage of the common instrument. Heretofore a serious obstacle has presented itself to the production of perfect likenesses in regard to getting dark rich drapery -- a flesh tone to the face -- perfect eyes, and a white bosom and colar. Mr. Boswell is happy to state that, by the new discovery (made by his Brother in Daguerreotyping in the South,) this difficulty has disappeared. Having had nearly six years constant practice, and regularly corresponding with the most celebrated operator in the South, Mr. Boswell pledges himself to mae as perfect a likeness at any time as can be presented to him from any Gallery in the United States. An idea has prevailed that in time these pictures would fade, but this erroneous impression has been entirely removed by the celebrated Dr. Farady, of London, and other eminent Chmeists of this country, who give it as their opinion that a Daguerreotype Picture coated with a solution of gold, will stand for any length of tiem; and when the public are informed that no respectable operator will let a picture go without this guilding, they are perfectly safe. The picture should be taken on a silver plate, chemically prpared to receive the impression, and if the camera be a good one, the image of the sitter will be thrown on the place with a fidelity that no artist, however skillful can imitate. [Did not copy all of ad.] Taken separately or in groups, Sick persons or Corpse, puntually attended to. All kinds of pictures copied in the neatest style. Pictures put up in Frames, Cases, Lockets, Breatpins, or finger rings, and perfect likenesses and entire satisfaction given before any charge is made. Persons who have imperfect Daguerreotyp pictures, can have them exchanged at a moderate price. Instructions given in the art, and every thing connected with the business furnished on reasonable terms. The new and unequalled process of cleaning and buffing plates, greatly facilitates the business and enables an ordinary child to perform that part successfully. Call and examine specimens. Room West Main street, opposite Wm. Cheeseman's. Operating hours from 8 am until 5pm in any kind of weather. J. K. Boswell, Artist. Richmond, July 3, 1850, 28tf.
