Brandt Steele: Indianapolis Arts & Crafts Designer and Potter, by Barry Shifman (Indianapolis Museum of Art, 1994), p. 16-17 Steele was head of design dept in manufacturing division of H. Lieber Co. from about 1910-1930, the last 5 yrs. part-time due to illness, designing catalog covers, moldings, frames, mirrors, and mantlepieces. During thie period he revived earlier interest in photography. In 1928 he became member of Indianapolis Camera Club, founded that yr. He exhibited his work at the 1st Invitational Club Exhibit of Pictorial Photography held at Herron in 1934. [also mentions lectures and other exhibits]. p. 21 legal name was Rembrandt, began using Brandt in late 1890s.
COLLECTIONS: Many items are at/or promised to the Indianapolis Museum of Art. A framed exhibition print is at IHS, with other photographs promised by relative in California.
