B. Ingraham's Gallery, the Indianapolis Photographic Association heard a lecture from Prof. R. T. Brown, who was an honorary member, and was one of the pioneer daguerreotypists; and who was, by invitation, present for that purpose. The evening was oppressively hot, but the Professor spoke in a very interesting and entertaining manner for about half an hour, and certainly not the least interesting part of his address was that which related to his own efforts at daguerreotyping in the year 1842, when only iodine was used as a sensitizer, and a thirty-minute sitting required to catch a shadow. Ind. Mag. of History, "Dr. Ryland Thomas Brown," by Caroline Brown (Krout) of Crawfordsville (his granddaughter), v. VVIII, pp. 92-106. p. 96-97: Summer of 1832 moved to Connersville where he established a medical practice and continued preaching. Established many churches in White Water country. Founded Christian Church in Connersville. Too strenuous and for a time he quit medicine and devoted himself to preaching. In June 1842 at state mtg. held in Connersville appointed to "labor in word and doctrine for the churches in Indiana" but this proved too strenuous and brought on hemorrhage of lungs and he retired from this work in order to regain his health. He worked a yr. in a sawmill, knowing that open air would heal him. "Before this, however, he had been working in a 'daguerreotype gallery', and thought the ether used in developing pictures had much benefitted him."
