His pictures are the ones which took the Silver Cup at the last State Fair. Photographs can be taken from small Daguerreotypes of Deceased Friends up to Life Size and colored in oil colors. may 7-dtf Indianapolis Daily Citizen, May 12, 1858, p. 3 It seems altogether probable that portrait-painting is, one day or other, to become an obsolete art. If any one doubts it, let him go and see some of the pictures painted by the Sun, at E. R. Gard's Likeness Gallery. Little was it supposed 10 yrs ago, when those ugly little Daguerreotypes used to cost four or five dollars apiece, that pictures as large as life, and so full of the expression of nature, that it is hard to realize that they do not move, and breathe, and talk, would ever be produced on the same principle. But such is the fact. We do not remember to have seen, anywhere, more beautiful pictures than at Mr. Gard's rooms this morning.
