Typewritten exhibit script by Tim Peterson, former IHS picture librarian: Charles Bretzman came to US from Germany around 1884 at age 17. He knew no English and had no formal education. He acquired skills of photographer, profession he 1st pursued in Kansas City and Chicago before coming to Indy around 1903.

Tim Peterson's handwritten notes: [from obituary] Charles F. Bretzman, d. Jan. 1934, age 67, pneumonia, b. Germany, borrowed steerage, no money, age 16 or 17, no English, Chicago, Kansas City, First family died early diptheria.

Men's Bible Class Largest in World. (First M. E. Sunday School) Mr. William Hershell, feature writer of the Indianapolis News, will bring great photographer Bretzman next Sunday, who will take a picture of the Adult Bible Classes with a Panoramic Camera. This will be the official picture and will go in the Easter Souvenir.

J. Frank Hanley to speak at First M. E. Church next Sunday night. All members of Adult Bible Class to be out since the famous "crikit" photographer of Indianapolis will be present to take a photograph of the members of the class and of the school. Every mother with her baby belonging to the Mother's Cradle Roll of the First Methodist Sunday school is requested to be present next Sunday on time.
