OriginalNotes: Find A Grave 95126779 Charles E. Tatman, b. October 31, 1852 in Laurel, Franklin County, Indiana, d. January 19, 1927, Shelbyville, buried Forest Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville

Undated obituary on Find A Grave: The death of Charles E. Tatman, came very suddenly Wednesday night at 11:30 o'clock at the family home, 458 West Franklin Street. He had been in failing health for a number of months but it was only recently that his condition was such that he was confined to the house. His death followed an unexpected collapse. Mr. Tatman was born in Laurel, Franklin County, on October 31, 1852. He came to Shelbyville with his parents, Johnston Ross Tatman and Polly Blake Tatman in 1869 and continuously resided in Shelbyville. He at once entered the Shelbyville High School of the class of 1880 of which he was the last surviving member. Prof. W.A. Boles was superintendant
of the schools at that time, the only school building in Shelbyville then being the structure recently taken down to make room for the Charles Major School. It is somewhat of a coincidence that Mr. Tatman and Mr. Major were members of the same class and were very intimate friends up to the time of his death. In Shelbyville he opened a picture gallery, the so called in a little one story framed building at the corner of Harrison and Franklin Streets on the ground now occupied by the Mutual Building Association. This he occupied for a number of years, and it was there his son became interested in photography. Later the Tatman studio was opened in the rooms over what is now the Blue Bird Restaurant, the studio being in the name of Tatman & Son. In after years C.E. Tatman conducted the business in the rooms over the S.B. Morris store on the Public Square. In the business he made acquaintances all over Shelby County, he being recognized as a real artist in this line of work. Mr. Tatman was married to Lotta Green, a daughter of Dr. W.F. and Mrs. Green, on November 15 1892. To this union two children were born, Edgar Tatman, now connected with an American electrical company in Lima, Peru, South America, where he has been for several years as direct representative, the second being Mrs. W.W. Tully, who makes her home with her parents. Another son, Burnell Tatman resides in Chicago. Two grandchildren, daughters of Mrs. Tully also survive. One brother, Dr. B.B. Tatman, resides at Mt. Vernon, Ill. His only sister was Mrs. M.H. Goodrich, who passed away some years ago at her home in Baltimore. Throughout his life of seventy-five years, Mr. Tatman was a citizen, a friend and a neighbor of the highest class. He affiliated with the First M.E. Church, he was aso a member of the Modern Woodman. Funeral services will be conducted at family residence Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. L.T. Freeland of the First M.E. Church, being in charge. Relatives and friends are invited. The interment will be at Forest Hill and will be private.
