H. P. (Henry) Dexheimer (ca. 1874–2 March 1935) was a photographer and president of Dexheimer Studio, Inc. of Indianapolis and Columbus, Ohio. He was born in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, he lived there until the age of fifteen when he went to Cincinnati, Ohio and studied art for two years. He then went to Hamilton, Ohio and managed a photographic gallery for L. C. Overpeck. From there he moved to Marion, Indiana and opened his own photographic studio from ca. 1890 to ca. 1924. While in Marion he also operated the Marion Vulcanizing Company ca. 1911. He was a member of the Knights of the Maccabees, Marion Tent, no. 22, from ca. 1905 to ca. 1917, and served as an officer of the club, possibly as treasurer, from ca. 1908.

Dexheimer was a member of the Indiana Association of Photographers. While in Marion, he developed a bank of gas lights for use in indoor photography, and was credited with being a pioneer in the use of artificial light for taking indoor pictures. He won many awards for his experiments, among them a gold medal for his lighting process at the 1900 Worlds Fair in Paris.

Dexheimer moved to Indianapolis ca. 1924 and operated a studio out of his home at 923 East 34th Street. In 1926 Dexheimer’s studio was located at Suite 12, Oddfellows Building (northeast corner of Washington and Pennsylvania Streets) in Indianapolis. He opened an additional photography studio in Columbus, Ohio ca. 1926. It was there that he died on 2 March 1935.

Lawrence H. Beitler is believed to have purchased the Dexheimer Studio in Marion, Indiana ca. 1925. He operated photography studios in Marion through the 1950s and died in 1961.
